Oni Apollo 0.9

September 16, 2010 by Oni Labs

We're pleased to announce the first release of Oni Apollo.

Oni Apollo is a small (~20kB gzipped), MIT-licensed cross-browser JS library for client-side stratified programming. It comprises a Stratified JavaScript VM, and a CommonJS-compliant module system. We've also prepacked some modules for common stratified programming tasks and for accessing common web services such as Yahoo's Query Language API and various Google APIs.

UPDATE: Since version 0.10.0, all the builtin modules have been externalized into the Apollo Standard Module Library, and the module system has been made to work in a cross-domain way.

You can find more information about Apollo at onilabs.com/apollo. We also have a little tutorial that examines how to use Apollo to write mashup style apps like Flickr Cities.

You can try Apollo right here in the inline StratifiedJS console below. The Standard Library and the Getting started documentation can give you some inspiration on what to type.
If not... you can just try this example or this one-liner.

There's a lot of stuff in the pipeline that we're planning to release in the not too distant future. Among others of course our Stratified JavaScript webserver / webapp framework Oni Rocket. Stay tuned.
